Dion Parson presents the music education program ‘Mentoring Through the Arts of Music’ created and directed by Dion Parson and sponsored by the VILottery. Knowing that “it takes a village to raise a child” mainly by experience of being that child, Dion Parson and the VI-Lottery decided that it was the time to put their energy and expertise to work in reaching out to the children of The U.S. Virgin Islands and serving the community.
Building a music education program that guides the young people of the Virgin Islands to their professional life is essential for the future development of the students and makes a distinguishable difference in becoming successful in the Arts of Music. The guidance from the world-class musicians of the Virgin Islands, who made this transition, gives the music students a real time prospective of what is possible for them in the future and what needs to be done to get to such a high level. Considering the development of the children of the community by sustaining their culture, this music program has its focus on guiding musically inclined students into developing their goals in life as individuals and as part of their culture.
The program consists of two aspects:
- A Workshop/Master Class series for kids of all age ranges on all three islands; “Be all you can be”
- 'The VI - Youth Ensemble'; made up of the most talented high-school students of the Virgin Islands.
Ad.1 Workshop/Master Classes
Under the direction of Dion Parson, in collaboration with other world-class musicians the Virgin Islands has produced over the years, students will be introduced to the quest of these world-class musicians, their music and the resulting impact of music in their future. This experience is designed to expose the children of the Virgin Island to the possibility of each individual to make their ‘dreams come true’.
Ad.2 ‘The VI – Youth Ensemble’
Under the direction of Dion Parson, in collaboration with the existing high-school music programs of the Virgin Islands, Dion will audition students for the ‘VI - Youth Ensemble’. ‘The V.I. Youth Ensemble’ is made up of the most talented kids of the Virgin Islands. Working with the band-directors of the Virgin Islands, Dion Parson has chosen these students as part of this prestige’s ensemble to develop the ensemble to a level that will enable them to go 'on the road' to different 'High School Competitions around the USA.
